Roero Arneis Bricco delle Ciliegie 2011

Year after year, Almondo is one of the very finest producers in Roero, a part of Piedmont where consistency is hard to come by.
This is a fabulous set of wines from top to bottom.

Rating: 90 points

Almondo's 2011 Roero Arneis Bricco delle Ciliegie covers every inch of the palate with layers of green apples, pears, white flowers and spices. The Bricco delle Ciliegie succeeds in bringing together the vibrant minerality of Arneis with the creamy, voluptuous texture for which it is so well known. One of my old standbys, the Bricco delle Ciliegie is once again outstanding.
Anticipated maturity: 2012-2014.

Rating: 88 points

The 2011 Roero Arneis Vigne Sparse is loaded with white flowers, lemon and bright green pears. This attractive, medium-bodied Arneis is very pretty, even if it isn't quite as polished as the very best years.

Roero 2010

Another gorgeous wine, the 2010 Roero positively bristles with energy and pure class. Sweet red berries, rose petals and minerals are some of the many notes that are woven together in this pointed, focused wine. The 2010 amply demonstrates the potential of Nebbiolo here. This is yet another great showing.

Roero Riserva Giovanni Almondo 2009

Year after year, Almondo is one of the very finest producers in Roero, a part of Piedmont where consistency is hard to come by.
This is a fabulous set of wines from top to bottom.

Rating: 92 points

The 2009 Roero Riserva Giovanni Almondo bursts onto the palate with a heady melange of black cherries, French oak, licorice, smoke and incense, all of which come to life in a sumptuous style that is
immensely appealing. This is very much a big, powerful style of Roero, but it works beautifully. At the same time, I can only wonder how much more expressive the 2009 could have been with a little less overt oak influence.
Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024.

This is a fabulous set of wines from top to bottom.

A more feminine side of Roero Nebbiolo takes shape in the 2009 Roero Bric Valdiana. An expressive core of sweet red berries, roses and spices flesh out in this gracious, mid-weight wine. Firm yet silky tannins frame the long, perfumed finish. The 2009 is simply lovely from start to finish.
Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024.
