The 2015 Roero Bric Valdiana is sweeter and deeper than the straight Roero, with greater texturale depth and overall structure. Sweet red cherry, kirsch, dried flowers and anise add lovely shades of nuance. The 2015 opens up beautifully with time in the glass as the layers flesh out. Effortlessly textured and inviting, the 2015 has so much to offer.

The 2013 Roero Bric Valdiana shows what is possible with Nebbiolo in Roero. Aromatic and beautifully nuanced, with plenty of depth to match, the 2013 offers terrific balance and tons of near to medium term appeal. The Bric Valdiana is a prototypical Roero Nebbiolo built on grace and elegance, not to mention a reference point wine for the region.

Almondo’s flagship 2011 Roero Bric Valdiana offers lovely depth and resonance. Dark red cherry, pomegranate, spice, cedar and leather overtones all flesh out in the glass. Supple and open-knit in personality, the 2011 is an excellent choice for drinking over the next handful of years. The new French barrels are evident, but the wine has enough stuffing to handle the oak.

The 2011 Roero Bric Valdiana wraps around the palate with serious depth and never lets up. Plum, black cherry, smoke and licorice all flesh out in a rich, dramatic wine endowed with stunning depth. With time in the glass, the Bric Valdiana opens up nicely. The French oak adds volume, texture and support of the fruit, while not overpowering the wine at all.

A more feminine side of Roero Nebbiolo takes shape in the 2009 Roero Bric Valdiana. An expressive core of sweet red berries, roses and spices flesh out in this gracious, mid-weight wine. Firm yet silky tannins frame the long, perfumed finish. The 2009 is simply lovely from start to finish.

Almondo’s 2008 Roero Bric Valdiana shows striking inner perfume and fabulous depth in its dark fruit. This is a relatively round style shaped by French oak, which also adds elements of spiciness. As good as this is, it doesn’t appear to have the stuffing to quite match the oak, but it remains attractive nevertheless.

The 2007 Roero Bric Valdiana Montà emerges from the glass with gorgeous dark red fruit, minerals, licorice, violets and French oak. This sleek, refined Roero impresses for its exceptional overall balance and fabulous pedigree. With time in the glass, the wine grows in depth and overall expressiveness. The tannins are a touch firm, but the Valdiana should be even better with another year ot two of bottle age. This is a fabulous effort from Almondo.

The 2006 Roero Bric Valdiana emerges with dark red cherries, sweet French oak, flowers and minerals, all of which are wrapped around a medium-bodied frame of notable elegance. The wine gains volume and depth with air, as the fruit continues to emerge and the finish becomes rounder, sweeter and more polished. This is a wonderful effort from Almondo.

The 2005 Roero Bric Valdiana (Nebbiolo) sparkles on the palate with layers of gorgeous, perfumed fruit. There is superb density and depth to this elegant Nebbiolo. The tannins soften with air, making it a delicious and tasty wine to enjoy now and over the next few years.

The estate’s 2004 Roero Bric Valdiana possesses an explosive, spiced bouquet along with layers of dark raspberries, strawberries and flowers that open in the glass. this superb, elegant Roero reveals outstanding definition as well as finesse, which places it easily among the region’s top wines.

2003 Roero Bric Valdiana-Dark ruby. The 2003 Bric Valdiana demonstrates just how great Roero can be. It shows a captivating, expansive nose of spices, sweet fruit, menthol, and minerals, along with generous macerated cherry flavors and excellent length on the palate. A reference-level wine for the appellation and a great starting point for readers interested in exploring the Nebbiolos of Roero, although the tannins are a bit aggressive at the moment and this will take some time to come together. 90+ /drink after 2008, 11/05. Almondo is one of my favorite producers in the area. His Arneis Bricco delle Ciliege (see Issue 5) and Roero Bric Valdiana are terrific wines that are well worth the effort of finding, and which offer a great introduction to the wines of these unique terroirs.

2002 Roero Bric Valdiana-Dark ruby. Almondo’s 2002 Bric Valdiana is an excellent effort for the vintage. It displays pretty notes of flowers, mint, spices, minerals and sweet dark fruit on a medium-bodied frame with good structure and balance. 87/drink now-, 11/05. Almondo is an excellent source for varietally true, expressive wines from Roero. The red Roeros are particularly impressive this year.

The 2001 Roero Bric Valdiana, a bright garnet with aromas of dried roses, tar, and minerals, is long and solid in flavor, with balanced tannins which support and sustain the flow and attractive mineral, tar, and black cherries notes on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2014.

The charming 1998 Roero Bric Valdiana reveals a classic Nebbiolo bouquet of floral rose water, sweet cherries, tobacco, and tar. Round and supple, with a sweet attack, this delicious 1998 will drink well for 3-4 years.
